You should stay in the house in which you will reside in September - is this Thornton? We thought J was going into Middleton A right up to the summer. The school will not know for certain who is leaving and what beds are available until nearer the time. The likelihood is that there will be 2 or 3 other New Deps in your house.

J was told uniforms might not be distributed till later, but in fact he was whisked off to the wardrobe within 24 hours.

Yes, you will have classes, but I think you will find them fairly informal and relaxed.

It is a time for making new friends and adjusting to the unusual ways of the school. If you have a bicycle that you can get easily to the school and home again, it helps. Walking everywhere takes a long time!

I have no idea which house I am going to be allocated to, I think I'm going to find that out in the summer term. I do hope it isnt one of the houses which are really far away from the dinner hall . Ooh Lessons and things, That will be strange, since I would have already finished school and then going back for more in july.

Yeah, though I would prefer to be closer to breakfast in the mornings!. Hmmm, though the ones far up the avenue are quite quaint. I really need to have a better look though. My dad and I only had around 3 minuites to look at them and that was the exteriors.

Are all of the houses exactly the same or are they all different inside etc?.

In my day they were alll virtually identical, although where there was an attached house the stairs were routed differently.

Because all the houses have been refurbished to different budgets they are now somewhat more individual 8in layout. The general consensus seems to be that the smaal and intimate lounge areas are no substitute for the open dayrooms which brought the house together.

The second phase of refurbishing seems to have addressed that issue , and what was once the main day room is now open-plan junior kitchen (at the front) and day room.

If you are in Thornton, that means that you will have the layout as described by Mrs C...

Two things: Junior kitchen? We weren't even allowed to make toast until our UF. And in the dayroom? What is the world coming to? I need a tablet and a lie down.

I've never had a pair but I have 4 pairs of converse, each in different states of dissrepair and covered in a mix of sequins and beads or ribbon laces. I have a feeling that I am going to be definitely getting a good pair of shoes.

I'm just getting a mental picture of these tiny size two customised Converse - sequins, beads, ribbons - how adorable is that? You coulddo a pair to wear at CH! Rlue ribbons, gold sequins; wonder if you could get away with it? From the sound of today's CH, there are no horrid old dragons beadily restricting your look - ooh, I feel quite excited!

Oh, and I have to agree with your boyfriend about the unsuitability of boots with no tread on the sole. In the Antipodes there is a quaint style of footwear known as the Ugg Boot - sheepskin, and of various lengths. The ankle-highs are particularly aesthetically displeasing IMO. In NZ they stick on a smooth sole - guaranteed to send one a$se over t*t (as the saying goes) the moment you try to walk on ice.

Excuse my ignorance, but are Converse a brand of trainers?

Munch, can you imagine Miss Norman? 'Now, Caroline, if one of those sequins falls off, and you trip and swallow it, you could choke and die. I've seen it done......... I've seen it done'.

Hmmmm, this of absolutely no amusement to anyone who has not heard, or does not remember Miss Norman's idiosyncratic speech patterns. Suspect that they had something to do with enlarged adenoids.

Or am I going completely gaga, and confusing her with someone else?
