Careful Kerren !!!!!

The avatar you've used above has ambiguous hidden connotations !

I just thought it was a nice depiction of a round tuit flogging a dead horse. I am so innocent that I am unaware of any hidden connotations - please don't take it the wrong way!

Of course you're innocent, Kerren - you were educated at Hertford!

Can you help me out on the date we changed from Wards to Houses? It came up on the Exeunt Traditions Thread.

I'm sure it's mentioned in 'Half to Remember', Katharine. I will check next time I go upstairs and look in the box of CH books!
Early 1960's, but exactly which year escapes me at the moment....
Kerren

And I hope that JR et al have recovered from the Round Tuit and the Dead Horse......

They were already houses when I arrived in 1965.

many people seem to be asking whether the housey revolution group has disbanded or gone underground as nothing has been posted on facebook, the true answer is far more mudane than that, its just that facebook is a banned under the "rule block pornography" on the filtering system. Furthermore while sites such as facebook are banned websites such as the site for the Westbrough Baptist Church in america was not, although that may have changed, this website preches homophobia and antisemtism. Worst of all the website address is not even sutble it is "www.godhatefags.com". Additionally people mentioned the lousey, i dont think that vessy found it that ammusing as allegedly the people behind it were punished for bringing it out.

Facebook banned as pornography? I don't see it somehow. If the management are clamping down on the revolution group's communicating via facebook, I would think it advisable to say so; rather than to call facebook "pornography".

I'd heard of the Westborough Baptist Church. Now I've had a look at the website. It made me feel quite sick. Alan, isn't it John McCain who is the Antichrist?

Oh for the days when Grecians LIVED in the Avenue Houses, because there were no Grecian Houses, also no TV, Sky or otherwise, No Facebook, no internet ---- aaaagh----- Sorry, I went to sleep for a moment !
Apropos Tuit as an owl --- is it true that D S McNutt (Only Old Old Blues will remember him ) once shot an owl because it replied to "Toowit" with "Twohoo" -- instead of "Two Whom " ?
Perhaps this joke is no longer funny --- Are Grammer and spelling still Tort at CH ?

If they are, CH must be the only school still doing so. Even teachers don't understand grammar, and as for Latin.....! If I see once more "a bacteria is......." I shall give up competely. (But I won't give up the wet finger to deal with misplaced apostrophies on blackboards outside shops)

Tell me about it. I work in an institution with a long history of training teachers. I see these kids going through the system, with no grasp of grammar or spelling. 'I would of thought/said.....' is a familiar expression. But we are not allowed to correct them!!! Political correctness says that we cannot demean them. AArrggh.....

I work in Quality Assurance in Higher Education, and have (in the past) been disciplined for pulling up a colleague on her misuse of the English language. Our Human Resources department told me (believe this, it's true.....) that 'spelling and grammar no longer matter'. Thank goodness that the purists like Queenie Blench are no longer around to see not only what is going on in the institutions which train teachers, but also in the classrooms in which they subsequently work.

Kerren

I would like to sit those HR To$$er$ down one sunny weekend with a pile of assignments to mark, said assigments having been written by students with no respect, knowledge or understanding of grammar or spelling, and see how long it takes them to accurately assess and mark the assignments.

It is always a joy for me to mark assignments written by literate students - it takes so much less time as I don't have to sit and wonder what the h@ll the writer was trying to communicate, and to hunt for a possible correct fact among a jumble of possible random words.

And don't get me started on final year undergrads who submit reports that include Text Speak ............

Off for a lie down.

Oh Kerrensimmonds ----- not "To Accurately Assess " But ACCURATELY TO ACCESS !
HoHoHo ! Sorry , but I couldn't resist it.
Has anybody else noticed that the BBC, which used to be immaculate in these matters, is now far from an Example.
EG: Qualified Absolutes --- Very Unique (Either Unique or not -- there ain;t no grades !)--- also Absolutely Perfect (What Perfection is not ?) and a lot of others, I won't go on, I know I'm a Pedant but I enjoy the English Language.
Having read this --- I realise there are capital letters where there shouldn't be and and and --- !
Oh well, I awaait the criticism with intrest ---- but in English please !

Oi, that was me not Kerren, and I would prefer to assess accurately if I am not to be permitted to split an infinitive.
