I think the school`s ok about colouring hair as long as it`s not "attention -seeking" i.e. the range of "natural" colours is acceptable, but bright red all over , or purple hi-lights would not go down too well I suspect!!
The same goes for hair styles.

Oh good that's fine. Because I saw the line ' no attention seeking hair styles' and I was a bit confused.
The Purple will definitely be out by the time I get there. At least they wont make me cut my hair, its short enough as it is.

Sometimes I wish I was at CH ages ago so I could be one of the oldie's and sit around saying 'in my day [ insert odd anecdote ] but now all the rules are lax. etc.'. though, I might have to wait a few years before I can do that.

V.V.V exicted for when I get my house allocation. Havnt picked a fave house since I didnt get to see inside the boarding houses but I definitely prefer Grecians East.

Without wishing to start up the East v. West business again (!) - why do you say that, as a matter of interest??

Well I definitely would not like to start an arguement but I prefered it because, probably I went there first on my tour. ( should have only been on one tour but managed to wrangle myself onto both!) and everyone in there was way more relaxed. Plus the settng around it looks much nicer in my opinion. though West does have all those trees. I don't know really.

One point to consider is that from September we have a new Head. He is, it would seem, from discussions that my wife has had with friends who work at his current school, to be quite strict!

If it did not clear the collar, it had to be tied back in a ponytail, bunches, or plaits. So there were some very tiny bunches, and some very long plaits!
I don't remember anyone in my time actually colouring their hair. But colouring and perming kits were becoming readily available in Woolworths. What do others remember?!
Here's another Oldie!

Most of us in 1964 began growing our hair! This is because after 5 -6 weeks of term, our hair, if short, would agonisedly be grasped by the sadistic Millie (Ones Housemistress) "to see how much it had grown", and then it would be chopped off by a so-called hairdresser in the Wardrobe Room. My mother burst into tears my first Long Sat on seeing the results. Not only was her nice little girl wearing threadbare clothes, showing chapped hands stained by the brass cleaning product Bluebell, and getting clean underwear only twice a week; but with hair scissored off convict-style. As soon as we could, we coaxed our hair into bunches - tiny wisps of hair gathered into rubber bands.

About 1967, I smuggled various sachets of an outrageously daring product into school. It was called Inecto "Hint Of A Tint". I'd got "Hint Of Chestnut" for me and other dark friends, Hint of Honey for Josephine Maude. We experienced the delicious frissons of fear if our enhanced hair colour were spotted. It wasn't! Amazing.

How lovely and enlightened the new CH sounds, Gemma. I hope you like it there. It sounds a different world.

Love

Oh noes. Strictness!. I am already imagining how much trouble I shall get into. I probably am one of the worst rule breakers in my school. Good job that no one notices though. :D

I shall definitely, like you, be watching these developements. I have a first row seat though.

Another point, my freind, who also was accepted it thinking about not going to CH and I am absolutely shocked that she would possibly turn down a place at CH for my current school's 6th form. It is her choice but it did surprise me.

If you are anywhere up /down to my standard you will get away with quite a lot provided it does not impinge on the school or anyone else.

As for your friend, leaving home/ boyfriends is possibly a bit frightening compounded with the feeling that she is going to the bottom of the pack after xxx years of fighting to get near the top.

At least you had the sense to ask - and look where it got you; you learned that pupils / OBs are not green skinned venusians but pretty ordinary humans actually. Equally you have seen posts by current pupils, a current master, the son of a master, the daughter (I think) of a teacher - I'm confused by that young lady!) and someone pretty close to a master who lives in; amazingly they are human, they have feelings, they bleed if they are cut - they are "normal".

What you friend knows / thinks I can only surmise. You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

I'm still slightly confused about the whole thing really. I suppose it is something I will have to experience to understand properly. Like eating marmite and getting your toenails pulled off.

I can't bear the thought of toenails being pulled off. They did not do that in my day and I am pretty sure they do not do it now...and will not do it next year even if the new Head Master is more strict (??) than his predecessor. So stop worrying Gemma... and just get there!

... and just think , Gemma - others have their family and friends rooting for them when they take on a new venture : you have a whole Forum rooting for you !! How cool is that ?

Yes i am the daughter of a teacher! and yes i do cause A LOT of confusion.

Gemma, your right you will never be ready for it and i do think to go with some element of uncertainty is nice that way you can maje your own opinion rather than arrive with a slightly tainted one by knowing a lot :)

My feet are cold.... anyway!.

I was thinking about last week how different it would be if I arrived there with no knowledge of the place save what I found out at the interivew etc and if it would increase my enjoyment at going and then I realised that it's much better actually knowing about the place I'm going to go. I wouldnt feel so much like a lost puppy then, hopelessly searching for things and futiley looking for a map of the school whe there probably isnt one.

I found out this morning that my induction week is starting on the day after my prom, which is the day after my NRA day!. that week is going to be amazing.

Was it snowing at CH today? Our school was bombarded with the stuff. I slipped a couple of times and because of my back pack I felt a bit like a turtle!. So embarrasing. I had to dry my poor school shoes with the hand dryers in the toilets, I dont suppose I'll miss that at all.
