sting
On holiday in North Wales I once trod on a rotten log which, unbeknown to me, housed at least one nest of wasps. They flooded out, went up into my jeans through the ankles, and round my head, came down through the neck of my polo shirt. I had my dog with me, and he and I both bolted for my car and slammed the doors. Even so, I sustained 36 wasp stings. It was not a happy occurrence.....but at least I lived to tell the tale!

In a book about Charles Lamb, the Verrio is described as being 'the length of a cricket pitch'
