International maths champ

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

International maths champ

Post by DavebytheSea »

Tim Hennock, 17, (current Dep) represented the UK team at the Romanian Master in Mathematics competition held in Bucharest.

It was the first time in a decade that the UK had won an International Mathematics competition, beating strong contenders such as Russia and Romania.

Tim, who also won an individual silver medal, said "It was a tough paper.

"I was proud to be part of the British team with Jonathan Lee and Dominic Yeo and to win such a prestigious competition".

From what I read this really was Mathematics whereas the Chinese Scot who came second in the world on an internet based competition last week (?) was tested on Arithmetic. He kept it up and was very good at what he did but it wasn't Mathematics it was Mental Arithmetic. (This lad was on Radio 4 and in the Independent but I haven't yet see anything about the team event.)
