Computer Network problem

Post by Tim_MaA_MidB »

I have two computers at the school that are connected via a wireless ad-hoc link. The host computer can access the internet via a wireless modem.

The client computer links to the host and they can share files and the printer on the same workgroup.

The host computer is set up for internet sharing and there is a gateway on the client that opens when the host connects to the internet.

The host can ping the client IP.

The client can ping the gateway on the host (192.168.0.1) and also the IP for the modem (which varies)....

BUT (and I am tearing my hair out over this).... it cannot get an internet connection.

Is there anyone that can provide some suggestions as to how to fix this?

I have tried may variations of automatic and preset IP and DNS settings and re-set the workgroups and wireless connections many times.

Also, I have a laptop which can adhoc link to this host computer and get internet.

Take a look at the network configuration on the machine that works and compare it with the one that doesn't.

It sounds like you're using Windows. 'ipconfig /all' should tell you everything you need.

From the Start menu, click (All) Programs, then Accessories, then Command prompt. Enter 'ipconfig /all' in the command prompt window (without the quotes). Do this both on the laptop that works and on the other machine that doesn't.

You may be able to use this information to figure out what you need to change. Otherwise, copy and paste all of it into this thread (for both machines) and somebody may have a better idea what the problem is.
