Our Motto?

Post by Angela Woodford »

Hearing Gordon Brown declaiming his school motto made me think -

"Fear God, love the Brotherhood, honour the King". Is that it? Do I remember correctly?

Munch
"Baldrick, you wouldn't recognise a cunning plan if it painted itself purple, and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing "Cunning plans are here again.""

Did you notice that his school motto was actually in Latin? Too elitist for our Gordo?
I think this subject has been debated on here before, but I can't remember what if any, conclusion we reached. I think you are right, Angela

If you scroll down to Kerren's answer you find the definitive answer (Honour all men is the bit you left out, Munch)

From that reference and going back to DBTS contribution could someone please look at Coleridge's motto and let me know (since I never saw it when I was hanging around there).

FWIW my family motto seems to be "je suis prest". OK so it is Norman speeeeling but at least I was normally pressed whenm I was there which makes it true.
Having more money doesn't make you happier. I have 50 million dollars
but I'm just as happy as when I had 48 million.

Checked out by Mary V on 26 October 2006. I remembered it correctly!
Thanks Mary. I remember it was written on scrolly things above the doors in Dining Hall.

Gordo's school motto pretty wimpish in comparison -

Munch
"Baldrick, you wouldn't recognise a cunning plan if it painted itself purple, and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing "Cunning plans are here again.""

Something I have just read - the school that was shamed into ditching it's old school motto, "I hear, I see, I learn" because it was too modern.

The Latin was "Audio, video, disco".

Munch

Oh, and sejintenev's family motto makes me think that he must have perfect creases in his trousers.... sorry, David
