Damn refurbishment!

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

I heard about that. if they were so well looked after and protected then they should have been worth selling, or maybe keeping in the spirit of tradition and such.

Universities are entirely single rooms now - doubles used to be the norm now apparently, and as a result there is less communal space. As a result, instances of depression have gone up among university students because single rooms are just so isolating...however they attract people to uni so are built.

Birmingham Uni doesnt put girls on the ground floor either for safety reasons. Auckland uni avoiding it where possible too.....

Many have double rooms for mature students. Husband and I had one when he was a postgrad. We had a little studio flat in fact. Very nice too. And half price as he was a student warden which meant he spent one night in 10 in the front office in case anyone on campus needed anything. In 2 years no-one ever did.

My son was one of the first occupants of a completely new students' hall in St Andrews, overlooking the R&A Golf Course. It was completely equipped with double beds - supposedly for the holiday letting market. Patrick was allocated a double occupancy room yes 2 double beds for 2 lads. (They were perpendicular to each other!)

I have never understood who would want to rent that room.

Have you SEEN the height of modern teens, and the size of their feet? They need big beds.

the host school gave us 5' beds on the music tour to calcutta... and you couldn't hang off the end otherwise you'd come out from under the mosquito net.
