OLD BLUE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA?

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

Latest poll apparently putting SH in the lead. https://ktla.com/news/politics/inside-c ... uary-2026/

However, it's the vote that are counted that count.

it does show how far old blues can end up from what CH originally intended and how differently people choose to live out the charge after they leave.

I don't see why SH is erring far from CH ethics.
On the other hand, I am a trifle surprised that such a very recent immigrant could become a State governor.

The Constitution of the United States of America (currently) imposes a requirement of being a 'natural born citizen' of the United States for two posts, (Federal) President and Vice-President. All other posts are open to US citizens (many to non-citizens). For example at least twice the Secretary of State has been a foreign-born US citizen (Kissinger and Albright).

The qualification for a post in a given State is a matter for the State Constitution (subject to any Federal law due to the Supremacy Clause), so there is no reason why Mr H ought not to be State Governor once he became a US citizen (cf. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austrian-born former California Governor).

After all, we have had a Danish-born King, a Normandy-born King and a Hanover-born King.

It looks as if there is the usual round of allegations surfacing in the media, this time against the Democrat candidate for Governor, Eric Swalwell: https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/ar ... m=referral

USA Today's latest article on the 2026 California Gubernatorial election: Mr Hilton is in the top 3 in the primary, voting day 2nd June 2026, and the top 2 advance to the run-off. https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/poli ... 278856007/

He was Cameron's advisor in the coalition government and was once described by the PM as "our little Hungarian fascist". He fell out of favour with Cameron and was satirised in Private Eye in one of those skits whereby the current PM is head of a school. In Cameron's case of course it was a posh boarding school where Cameron's portentous homily to the official school newsletter was always run in full but deputy headmaster Mr Clegg's effort was always cut short or held over until next week. Mr Osborne the Bursar was always struggling with the school finances while Mr Johnson was always getting ticked off for being seen lurking in the vicinity of the Sixth Form girls' changing rooms. When Hilto left Cameron observed that he was always coming to the headmaster's meetings barefoot and would sit there gazing out at the blue sky. In the end, said Cameron, he turned out to be a rather unreliable sort.
He later went on to contribute to Sky News in America and will doubtless f*ck things up in California. At which point the CH Unofficial website will tactfully drop all mention of him.
That’s quite a sharp and very satirical take on Hilto and the whole CH political “record.” The Private Eye style comparison with the school setup is actually pretty funny, even if a bit harsh.

Still, it feels like there’s a lot of personal opinion mixed in with the story, especially in how later career moves are framed. Interesting read though—it really shows how political figures get remembered differently depending on perspective.

Well the votes are still being counted (postal votes it seems) and Mr Hilton is ahead of his rivals at 27.8%, but postal votes tend to favour the Democrats, that's a dead cert.
At the time of publication, Hilton is leading the polls at 27.8 percent, according to CNN. Becerra is trailing the Republican at 25.4 percent; Steyer is at 19 percent.
