I am told by someone at the school that the status of the Senior Grecian is now marked by wearing/carrying (not sure which) a key.
This is said to be a revival of a custom at Newgate Street, which, for some reason, was discontinued on the move to Horsham. The school is, of course, perfectly entitled to amend the uniform as it sees fit but I am puzzled by the reference to this being customary prior to the move to Horsham. I have made a fairly detailed study of the Housey uniform and have never ever come across any written reference to this key nor have I seen it displayed on paintings or photographs of Senior Grecians.
Can anyone shed any light on this, please?

P.S. Sorry about the size and varying of the typeface, but it is beyond this old Old Blue's capability to correct it.

Re: SENIOR GRECIAN'S KEY?
For some reason this rings a faint bell, something to do with keys and the SG. But not something I recall seeing in the 1970/80s at Horsham.

Re: SENIOR GRECIAN'S KEY?
This afternoon I saw my friend’s daughter who is the Designer in Residence. I asked her about it, she said that the Head Master had found the key and asked her to clean it up. It is attached to the Senior Grecian’s belt. She hadn’t heard any history of it.
After two terms in Horsham, she still thinks it’s a strange school! I told her a strapline was A school like no other, that got a laugh!
