This is probably a silly question, but why does somebody with a CH education end up stacking shelves at Sainsbury's? Was he so determined to have a rugby career that he didn't consider anything else?
Sadly I know absolutely nothing about rugby - except the old adage 'give blood, play rugby'! - but I did actually find myself watching the highlights of the Fiji match on iplayer and managed to miss Joe. Well done anyway, Joe.

I think he was working to help finance a gap year, following his rejection by Harlequins, from what I've read but then Wasps stepped in and the rest is history.Fjgrogan wrote:This is probably a silly question, but why does somebody with a CH education end up stacking shelves at Sainsbury's? Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
I worked with his mum in the Health Centre before they went back to the West Country a couple of years ago, and Joe was at school with my younger daughter.
His work in Sainsburys was flexible enough to enable him to train and go off to play matches. So although the press would have us believe that this was a "career choice"... it was in fact only a temporary job whilst waiting to find out where the rugby world/uni would take him!
I`m so pleased he`s doing so well - a great lad...and a lovely family.

WPC Davies (Staff) played centre for England and British Lions in the 50s, I think

I don't usually watch the 'egg-chasers', but have to admit to watching England yesterday and thought Joe had a good game.
