Re: WIMBLEDON 2010...
Did anyone see the GP last weekend? - our lads were beaten by a German - Sebastian Vettel driving for an Austrian team (Red Bull), based in Milton Keynes. His partner Mark Webber tried to drive up Heikki Kovalainen's rear end and took off - well they do say that Red Bull gives you wings! Fortunately nobody was hurt. Then a quick change of TV channels just in time to see our lads beaten yet again by the Germans!! Not a good day really!

At least until very recently 90% of racing cars worldwide were built in the UK in a triangle including Milton Keynes and Snetterton. Some years ago Ferrari F1 cars were designed and built in the UK - I don't know the present position.Fjgrogan wrote:Did anyone see the GP last weekend? - our lads were beaten by a German - Sebastian Vettel driving for an Austrian team (Red Bull), based in Milton Keynes.
I think it was 3 years ago when only one NASCAR team had cars not built in the UK!!!! (IMHO it was a major loss when TVR went out of production).
To go further, one of the big Japanese motorbike manufacturers used cylinder heads designed in/on the Isle of Man for its racing bikes.

Some of the best engineers in the world and we still can't make money out of our own products.

Close to home, what about Barnes Wallis and his swing wing aircraft? It is the basis of a whole generation of fighter aircraft - made in America.jhopgood wrote: Typical.

They have even nicked the Harrier and rebadged that as American

Don't forget the late Graham Chapman's Lotus from Norfolk.Fjgrogan wrote:Did anyone see the GP last weekend? - our lads were beaten by a German - Sebastian Vettel driving for an Austrian team (Red Bull), based in Milton Keynes. They're back in F.1 this season, but a long way to go.

Aah good old Lotus. Friends of mine have a Elise Supersports. Very fast, utterly impractical. And virtually impossible to get out of when you've got two frozen shoulders...
And don't forget, if you have a classic Lotus, you will probably know what Lotus stands for:

Don't knock Murray too hard. He's not rubbish. He is turning into a great player, but is not yet as great as Nadal. They both upped their game yesterday, but the more experienced player won in the end.
A totally different scenario from the lacklustre England Football team.

Definitely under age, npo licence. I got lent a Lotus 7 to try. Went up Halnaker Hill and braked for the sharp corner; the front wheels locked! Found out later I could lift the front end with my left hand and also that the owner raced it.Tommy wrote:Aah good old Lotus. Friends of mine have a Elise Supersports. Very fast, utterly impractical. You are right Kerren, despite my sarcastic Mc Henman comment above!kerrensimmonds wrote:Don't knock Murray too hard. He's not rubbish. He is turning into a great player, but is not yet as great as Nadal. They both upped their game yesterday, but the more experienced player won in the end.

The fact is we should enjoy him while we can. Soon there will not be a British player capable of taking us into the second day at Wimbledon let alone the second week.
He has reached two grand slam finals and a fair few semis now. Those stats probably make him the greatest British player since Fred Perry. "Bunny" Austin is the only other contender in my opinion. Murray has already eclipsed Rusedski, Henman, Taylor and Sangster.
I really hope he manages to win at least one Grand Slam event in his career.
