Well, the CCL League and the regional F.A.'s have allowed us to carry out pitch inspections today, prior to the Boxing Day footy-matches.

No games ON, as yet. Either pitches frozen, or waterlogged after the rain and the start of the thaw.

Had a horrid time yesterday, trying to do our usual big shop. Up the hill as normal on a a very slippery icy road. Road closed because of an accident, with police everywhere. Had to go literally all round the houses to get to the car park, and managed to get one of the few remaining spaces, and got out onto a surface like an ice rink. It then rained which cleared a lot of the ice, and finally back home still in one piece.

Our son-in-law in County Cork had to walj part of the way to work in his socks, carrying his shoes because it was too dangerous to drive, and he was all over the place in shoes.

It is now raining, and the temperature is dropping. Happy Christmas one and all.

I think it was NTN who mentioned it further up this thread.

If you are in a car reduce the tyre pressure very considerably whilst you are on ice etc. Then, when you get onto "safe" tarmac there are inexpensive (mine was £10) car powered electric pumps which will get each tyre up to pressure in 3 minutes. Good also for pool toys (arm bands, lilos etc. and even footballs if your initials are JR). That works equally well for sand.

Sadly, (having failed to grow up properly), the snow is all gone :( :(

I can report digging myself off my Mum's drive (minor slope) on Christmas Eve's Eve and off my own front lawn, (lack of traction to get anywhere else that night) and then ON to someone elses drive on Christmas Eve. All males concerned impressed with my shovel (not a spade, it is far too wide and well used for that), piles of old carmats and cardboard in the boot and making my friend sit in the bonnet of my car over the wheel that couldn't quite get traction on her upwardly sloping gravel drive on a present delivery run. Finally, Top Gear and five brothers comes in useful!!

And yet still sad that the snow has all gone! :( :(

We, in Dorset, have been particularly smug, about the absence of Snow.

Only idiotds retire to a house on a hill, but it didn't seem like a hill 25 years ago. We had to go out today so took the shopping trolley, which was brilliant goong down, giving me a sense of safety. Coming back was a different matter, loaded with milk, eggs cheese bread etc, but we managed by walking in the road most of the way, and gratefully accepted the help of a passer by for the last few yards.
There was quite a thaw today, but it's freezing again now, and cars are having problems getting up the road.

I hate winter.

Yes but even then it didn't settle at all here - I think we must be the only place in the country with NO snow!
