I don’t think anyone is criticising you personally, Golfer.
I am sure two thirds of the school staff would have been horrified by what was happening under their noses.

Re: Management knowledge of the Husband/Dobbie cases
My understanding is that one of them was a witness for the prosecution.
That of course does not mean anything as this could have simply related to the circumstances which led to his dismissal.

Re: Today's the day
I’m wondering if one practical step could be taken now. For all the right reasons under usual circumstances, I know the BSB tends to ask beneficiaries to commit to doing something in return - giving atalk to the school about career choices, etc. It feels to me that it would be wrong to expect that i...

Re: Today's the day
It seems to me that the issue of support cuts both ways. Children now at the school need to be reassured and kept safe. It seems as if the school is onto that. Children who were at the school at the time of these abuses are vulnerable adults. They have either experienced abuse directly or are now de...

Re: Today's the day
I don’t want to be churlish. But headmasters are supposed to give good stirring speeches and interviews. That’s their job. You can’t ask us to judge someone’s integrity by what they say in the radio. Fine words butter no parsnips. Is he offering counselling or support for those coming forward? Are t...

Re: A post on behalf of one of the Dobbie/Husband victims
I think that any attempt to help victims needs to be aware that the school may have also sanctioned or allowed abuse to continue of vulnerable parents as well. Please delete this post if it is not appropriate. A close relative, who is unfortunately now dead, was approached by an office colleague in ...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
Two points: 1) I spoke to a friend who taught in a boarding school in this era. She points out how incredibly seriously these issues were taken even then in other schools, and how there would have been no question of just reporting it to management and ignoring it from there. That confirms to me my ...

Re: Husband & Dobbie - VERDICTS
I have very few memories of C.H. staff showing moral leadership but one of the few was Tim Askew getting righteously and appropriately angry with some anti Semitic comments made in class. I have always valued that as a person of Jewish descent he was the only teacher I ever heard speak out against w...
