Re: Dobbie's departure
There are many facets to omerta.Tim’s offering a valuable perspective in a measured way.
We cannot know it is a valuable perspective until we know what that perspective is.

Re: Ernest McCall- Maths teacher / housemaster Maine A
Interesting that he was Housemaster of Lamb B (before Shippen?) and then Maine A (both as senior houses). I don't recall Housemasters ever moving house before (not sure if he had a gap). I wonder if there was a specific reason for that? In September 1984 , I think, they created the block system Thi...

His initials are ERM and in the early 80s he was housemaster of LaB, a senior house at the time

Re: Address to the Governing Council help please
You are a very brave man and I salute you.
I would like to know if the Headmaster and SMT will have more oversight of how Houses are run?
Housemasters had too much autonomy, and in my 7 years, the Headmaster only visited once.
How can he possibly know what is going on?

Re: Who Knew What?
And on the Sicker subject, I've been trying to think of the name of the school dentist who came in from time to time. Pearson seems to ring a distant bell. In my day it was Mr Wiffen, and his wife was the nurse. Very pleasant people. I've never seen someone tuck into chocolate cakes as enthusiastic...

Re: Dobbie's departure
"By clique I meant a group of friends > 2" At the risk of being pedantic (but, hell, why not?) there is a subtle difference between a clique and a group of friends. A clique is a social group of like-minded people who share a common interest and who resent (or even prevent) outsiders from...

Re: Dobbie's departure
Were you aware of an alleged clique which included JH (edit: meant to say "JAH") and GWD? Unfair of me to ask you and I can understand why you would not want to answer Happy to answer but it doesn't lead anywhere. Yes they were friends. What is a clique? Are two friends a clique? I doubt ...

Re: Dobbie's departure
Who are JAH and GWD? If the latter is GW Deakin (OB) I find this most strange. GWD seemed to have a very happy family life (including daughter nicknamed “Minnie”), did not leave suddenly but because his most important work (Engineering Grecians) was disbanded. Although he also directed the Manual S...

Re: Who Knew What?
Well - there were some questions about a refund of fees - here is what I would suggest. Return to pupils or their parents the average fees paid for their time at the school (this takes care of the variable nature of fees). The school can then say they have done something concrete. This would not co...

Re: Dobbie's departure
I can think of at least 4 reasons why any member of staff would be daft to comment publicly. Bullying would be one. Someone commented that I had spent time in the "ivory tower of Peele A". The first time I actually went into Peele A was to complain to the house master that Peele A boys ha...

Re: Who Knew What?
Too true - I am rewriting my will tomorrow. There is no point giving to a failed institution. I for one hope that things can be turned around. I look at some of the great work that has been done in failed inner city schools to turn them around to benefit the disadvantaged. Although the reasons for ...
