Re: Over on Facebook

I've been shut down on Facebook for pretty much just repeating stuff that was reported in the newspapers. It's the right of the moderator to make their own decisions, but excessive caution over potential libel is often ends up being used either unconsciously or consciously as a way to not deal with ...

Re: Who Knew What?

Were there any mentions in the Blue in Summer 1996 of Dobbie leaving? Or did he quietly disappear?

Why was he demoted in 1993 to Assistant Chaplain, being replaced by A. Mitra? We could even find A. Mitra and ask him...

Are the Blue archives available online?

Re: "Petition 2018" to Council for a "Truth & Reconciliation Inquiry"

Were teaching job references in the mid-90s the same as now though? I would have thought they still had a bit more detail then. Academic references still contain a lot of detail about the referand...

Re: Underachieving at CH

Hah, what's so bad about being a teacher? (err... not counting the recent news of course) I always thought (or, it was always expected of me) that I would go the PhD route but wasn't disciplined enough to stay in the program. I suppose I was a big let down in CH's eyes (not that I give a sh!t, espec...

The dead are to blame for 95% of what's wrong with society... Most of them used to be old white men. But the overwhelming thing they had in common was that they were rich.

Yes, I meant Monty. He mainly taught IT with maths as his secondary subject, I thought.

Re: Teaching staff

There were several chemistry teachers at CH were I was there but only one IT teacher. I'm surprised this is still the case. I would have thought it necessary or useful to increase the number of programming classes available and have the same number of IT staff as any other science subject

Re: House structure

I don't think any of the masters who were masons ever hid the fact (most notably Bob Sillett MBE), a lot of my peers who joined the lodge are equally open, and the school hosts lodge days. Freemasonry is wound into the very foundation of the Horsham site. Mr Higgins (my chem teacher) was a member. ...

Re: How far did the rot spread?

The problem is that in the 90s CH was already going on about the huge changes it had made, as you can see a bit from Poulton's blathering in the CH videos mentioned in the other thread. Too many factors are the same: enclosed, semi isolated environment (now even more so); reverence of tradition and ...

I don't understand these secret societies broadcasting their membership lists all over the internet. The only names I recognized were Higgins, Sillett, and Overend

Re: Freemasons and questions to answer

No, not McCall, someone else. He discouraged me from doing double maths A-level which was bad advice (especially as I repeatedly came first in the school in various maths exams)

Hah... depends on how your memories of your time there were. The parts where Poulton appeared got me swearing at the screen.

Re: Freemasons and questions to answer

The dragging out into daylight of maggot-infested decaying feudal corpses (aka "pomp and pageantry") was always a little disturbing to me, especially as I had just moved from the French education system which was in the process of celebrating the 200th anniversary of getting rid of lots ir...
