Re: teaching relevance in later life
Like you I was in the doldrums on leaving ch. I did sciences for a levels but failed to get grades sufficient for uni. Career advice at housey was frankly appalling : a grotty filing cabinet of leaflets tucked into an out of the corner of the new science block. I am relieved to see the the old libra...

Re: Horsham Pass - Downs Link path
Interesting, in the era of hm CME Seaman old blue, CH was a closed community, no going to the outside world in termtime without written permission and for very good reason. Especially not to the fleshpots of Horsham although what he thought we could get up to in full housey dress God alone knows. Ci...

Re: Horsham Pass - Downs Link path
No such thing as a Horsham pass in the sixties but there were ways round!! I did Duke of Edinburgh to avoid CCF and this enabled me to use a bike. ( Bike use then was only for monitors which I wasn't). Reason : my d of e activity was brass rubbing in country churches only accessible by bike!! I neve...

Re: Opinions on the recent ‘Final Band Parade’ Videos
Agreed, the videos appeared to me to be a one off harmless bit of fun. Not sure what Clarence Seaman would have made of it but times change thank god. Have band parades fallen victim to the cafeteria style catering? Requiring a more staggered approach to queuing? Cramming 850 pupils through two door...

Last band parade a week before the end of term seems more of a degrade?

Re: Barking In Essex
In the sixties, the dining hall peas were like bullets, stick the end of a knife into the edge of the table, add pea, bend knife and flick. Managed to to hit Clarry boy Seaman from the Thorn A table one time! The Verrio was professionaly restored whilst I was there, covered in scaffolding for weeks,...

Re: Punishments at CH
My memory from the sixties was a four minute quick change as being games clothes to housey to games clothes, but I could be wrong! We also ran Eight minute miles. I remember Pongo Littlefield in Barnes A as being a beater with the cane for very little reason. But on transition to the New senior hous...

For part of my career, I was the UK National Pavilion coordinator for Trade Fairs in France (around 100 events a year) and as such was required to monitor the finished product by occasional site visits which included Paris Fashion Week. I got to know Paris and Cannes quite well!!

I used to attend the Paris Lingerie show for work (life as a civil servant can be really tough!!) and was amazed at the wide range of male posing pouches on display. The mind really boggles after that!!

Re: Leigh Hunt House Photos...
The one abiding memory I have of Miss Haigh in Prep A days, was the occasion (1962) when a family friend sent me a fruit cake for my birthday.
I was summoned to Matrons room, allowed to open said parcel and eat one small slice. The parcel was then rewrapped and returned to sender!! Cruelty or What??

Just checked: mine is still servicable, just needs a few holes darned. It definately came from John Lewis, Oxford street, I can remember going there to get it along with the games clothes.

My knitted one, when turned in, also did admirable service as a wooly hat.
I even used it as a useful container when scrumping apples from the orchard.

Re: Did we have half terms?
I have a feeling that a long week end was introduced in the summer term to replace the Thursday whole holiday sometime in the late 60s . We used to live in Torquay and my widowed Mother could only get time off to travel up at week ends so the whole holiday was a no-no for parental visits! In the end...

No steam in my day, I was there when the train crash occurred and the loco was definately a diesel.
