Re: Guardian obituary of Peter Austin Jones

Anyway, when I was in Prep B in the early 50s, One Austin (Austen?) Jones arrived in Prep A and was henceforth known as Austin Jones because the senior housemaster of Prep A was already one MH Jones (although it might have been MB).They were known as Jonah Senior and Jonah Junior. Does this help ...

Guardian obituary of Peter Austin Jones

He was a master at CH Horsham from 1953 or 54 until 1969. When he arrived, there was already a master known as Peter Jones ( Meilor B Jones, Staff 1941-69 ), so to reduce confusion he added his middle name.

The author of this obituary is Michael Schmidt (Thornton B 1965-66) .

Anyone near that neck of the woods on Saturday evening might care to sample this Choral Extravaganza directed by Peter Allwood (CH Director of Music 1985-2001) and featuring some of his own work:

Amelia White (in the Daily Mail) deplores her CH years

She writes that her experience at the school (1986-91) was a punishment and blighted her life. Sad reading.

Guardian obituary of Robert Ashe

A stalwart of the UNHCR, he was in Thornton A from 1966 to 1970 (and presumably in a junior and/or Prep house before that). We knew him as the Viscount Corvedale

Sadly, he died last month after 45 years as Earl Baldwin of Bewdley.

He was a master at CH Horsham from 1970 to 1974.

The Telegraph sums him up as "defender of his grandfather Stanley's political reputation and advocate of complementary medicine".

You may need to be registered with the Telegraph ...
