While watching the film 'Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society' I noted that one of the key elements in the story was the book 'Tales from Shakespeare' by Charles and Mary Lamb.To my embarassment I had never heard of this book, even though I am an Old Blue and was in Lamb B! I now have a copy and it is splendid - very easy to read and explains some of the more obscure plays in an understandable way. I only wish that I had a copy when revising for GCE O Levels. First published in 1807 it has never been out of print - a remarkable record.

I think we referred to it at Hertford, I certainly knew about it then.

I was given the book as a school prize from primary school, but it took me years to link the author to the name of a house at Horsham. I almost certainly didnt know the Horsham house names. The names of our Wards (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) I always found singularly unimaginative.
