Another thread, about rock music in the 50's, contains a couple of peoples' suggestions for music/performers that might not be so well known. It occurs to me that we might pursue this as a topic. The forum contains people from very different locations, backgrounds, experiences and tastes, so we might be able to provide suggestions that others might never come across.

An interesting start, Mike. Personally I found her voice a little reedy - an octave lower might solve that. With that song there were parts I wondered if she was singing in Inuit, Canadian English or our version. Little Toy Trains was better but those opening bars seemed to have been almost lifted from elsewhere. She doesn't add to the 150+ in my bookmarks.

I suspect that my exchange with Paul Strange might not have triggered your thoughts? I emailed the web addresses of some to him and wait for his view with bated (no baiting involved) breath. They included a dancer singing a sad song, a girl separated from her boyfriend by a river, a crowd of young girls having the time of their lives (Paul - did you see the little one front row extreme left and the man, back row centre with oversized teeth?) .... - all relatively unknowns. I think of her as BB in B - not the French lady but the Bouncing Blonde in Black

There is an innumerable host of composers out there with even more pieces to their names and some will be totally disliked, few with 100% favour by some and the majority with only some good output whether they be Bach or Beethoven or James Last. Thus I suspect that there will be a lot of disagreement on this thread. I will just stick to a wide range of music types (l'Italiano to Chabrier via Ketelbey, British, French, Croatian and beyond, even Japanese).

An interesting development on ClassicFM over the weekend. Whom do you think is/was the best tenor of all time? They went through the voice ranges etc. of all the well known names and a few others and came up with a man whom I had only heard singing in a single classic item! However also a pop singer! The winning strength was not range but pure power of his voice. With those clues I'll leave it to others to make their views know.

I recommend Radio Paradise, an 'eclectic' online radio station which has greatly widened my range of musical experiences. Somewhat disruptive when working, as one has to look up what's being played, but perfect for retirement/lockdown!

On the subject of radio, you might be interested in Radio Garden. The green dots on this Google Earth map represent radio stations all over the world. Click on any one of the dots and you will immediately hear that station with very good reception. For example, halfway up Ireland's east coast, there is a station playing Irish pub music. Any who are multilingual or want news from your home town might enjoy this.

Just heard a tune which reminded me of my best man's wedding. Coming back from Denmark he, I and the two wives found a jam session in the bowels of the ship and the Shadows played that same song. Unfortunately both Rod and Gurli have both passed away. Bad memories but the good memories are better.
