I'm off to Ashtead Hospital in half an hour for an afternoon operation on my right hand, (the 2nd operation, to correct the first c0ck-up, courtesy of the NHS.)
Hopefully, I'll be back out tonight or some time tomorrow...
However.to quote Capt. Oates, 'I may be gone some time !' ........... Though hopefully, not as long as him !!

Re: CHA versus CHOBA
Similarly to John I'm a board member of the CHA/CHOBA.
John knows far more about this than I, especially the history, having been involved in the transition.
My personal unofficial thoughts:-
1. Young Old Blues weren't not interested due to the name - but it wasn't obvious it was an association which is the main organisation for Old Blues.
2. CH Club definitely gave the impression of an old-style London Club - and hence not necessarily attractive to YOBs.
3. It's only a name - don't get hung-up over it! As Old Blues we really do tend to spend an age talking about what is essentially trivia in the grand scheme of things.
4. The CHOBA aims to foster relationships between Old Blues - this includes keeping a light touch with YOBs whilst their focus is elsewhere, but being easily accessible whenever we can help. By providing additional services (i.e. not just renunions) then this contact can be maintained. There's a wealth of Old Blues expertise out there, which we really don't make easily accessible.
I agree completely with John that our focus should be on the important areas, including the Careers network, rather than worrying overly about the name, structure, etc.

I know I'm delving off to the side here a little bit ( I am not much bothered about the name change - it makes no odds to me) but I feel that the YOBs have been a little neglected of late... very few gatherings recently...

One of the reasons why there is a lack of YOBs at Functions is ------
Founder's Dinners held in City Livery Halls and other "Posh" venues.
Great for those living in,or near to, London--- but accomodation ???? (And cost !)
Did anyone think of, at random, -- Birmingham -- Bristol - Scunthorpe---Glasgow -----

That's a good point - my sister lives in Manchester and she is forever moaning about the London-centricity of events. (I think by its nature, many OBs do end up in London)NEILL THE NOTORIOUS wrote:One of the reasons why there is a lack of YOBs at Functions is ------

She is also extremely busy at work, from what I can gather.

I've been looking for a yawn smiley without success ............................................
I initially thought that Ali was short for Alison, and was a trifle surprised that she would indulge in what reeked to me of testosterone tossing Then, despite the fact that my brain and computer fan are close to failing in the heat, I noticed that, having joinedthe forum in 2005, Ali has posted only four times. Any chance that the fifth might take the form of a public apology to John?

Re: CHA versus CHOBA
I can't comment on the history - I had little to do with "The Club" (whilst I was a paid-up member) because it felt all too old and stuffy - I guess it wasn't, but it looked and appeared that way to a young Old Blue.aliburns wrote:I used to be a staunch Old Blue, but after seeing, at first hand, so many Old Blues ‘feathering their own nests’ under the guise of doing ‘good work for the CH community’, (I suppose just like MPs!) I no longer wish to be associated with them.
Your comments sadden me - especially when it's only a name change; the feeling was that it simply needed to be clearer that this was a core Old Blues' Association, in exactly the same way that the Old Blues Rugby Football Club is absolutely clearly a CH club, which I believe has MANY non-Old Blues happily involved and contributingly significantly?
Re. the 'feathering their own nests' - I'm surprised by this. I've seen none on this in my time on the Board (since the inception of the CHA) and would be interested in how you feel this exhibits itself? I suppose I take this as a personal insult (as a board member), with the implication that I'm doing it for my own benefit?
I'd be interested to know what you think that benefit could be? I'm yet to see any personal return or benefit from my time, expense and efforts for the CHA/CHOBA, nor for the CH Forum...if anything it's a huge chore and committment, especially the website side of things, and also when battling the momentum and intricacies of the CH establishment, to understand the limitations and achievable pace of change....I certainly don't do it for personal reward.
I'll be interested in your reply...
