Congratulations to Joe.

As being someone very involved with Association Football for years, I beg to ask the question is the captaincy a paid position, and would he be earning anything like our Premiership football players ?

From my limited knowledge, I would imagine that the answer to question one is yes, and to question two, no. He might possibly earn in a year what a few of the highest-paid footballers get in a week!

Joe lost his England place through injury and the good form of his replacements whom, in their turn, are now injured.

Our man Joe had an immense match against Wales in Cardiff today and was deservedly selected as Man of The Match.

Watched the match in France. Even the French commentators went overboard about his performance! Awesome!!

It was a simply titanic performance from Joe.
I trust that Gatland will book his plane ticket for the summer now, even though Jones seems unconvinced by him.

Again the accolade was richly deserved in a somewhat surreal match.

Having listened to his two post match interviews he comes across as a very modest self effacing young man for whom actions speak louder than words.

Not sure how that goes down with an Aussie like Eddie Jones but all the time we're winning I reckon Joe will keep his place despite the competition he faces from his rivals.

So Warren Gatland decided not to select Joe Launchbury after all for the Lions tour.

What a classy reaction though from Joe:

A monstrous error by Gatland! I hope he has to eat his selection. How can you not take the best 2nd row in the UK? John Saunders. past President Tynedale and Northumberland RU.

Alun Wyn Jones will likely get injured and I would imagine that Joe & Jonny Gray are the next cabs off the rank. The only reasons that AWJ was selected were that he's hugely experienced and a former Lions captain. I think he'll be out after the first test...

A couple of shots from the Premiership Final at Twickenham: I was lucky enough to be there, and in REALLY good seats too. Joe's Wasps were ulitmately denied in extra time, but a great match and he played exceptionally well.

Leading out the team complete with young mascots.

Taking a lineout deep into Exeter's territory.

Got to feel sorry for Joe in that he is not really getting much of a look in this World Cup. I don't think any other country has the depth at second row that England does.

Meanwhile let's hope England finish the job against Australia in the second half.
