problem with Chrome

Post by michael scuffil »

This Forum (for me) has suddenly become unreadable on Chrome -- it's covered in red circles enclosing symbolic lines representing text (and I can't shrink the drop-down menus). This doesn't happen in incognito mode, but there of course I can't post, because surprise surprise I'm incognito. I'm writing this on Pale Moon, which is my reserve browser. Anyone know what's wrong?

My browser is Chrome and (touchwood cross everything) all is well for me.

Mine's covered in blue circles. Is this significant?

The blue has now turned to red. Is this in deference to my political views?

I briefly had the same problem in Safari, after the last downtime, but it went away before I felt the need to report it.

I had it in W7; Julian has just told me how to sort it by a reload (Ctrl + F5 in windows). It's being a bit slow at present

The musings of Dr Scuffil.
His freedom to post
Is suddenly toast
And is causing a mighty kerfuffle.

Personally, I don't use Chrome.

There was an issue with this site last week when Julian was working on an up-grade.

Crtl + F5 has fixed it. The logic of computers never ceases to astound me.

I always felt sorry for Catweazle who used to shout "electrickery"! when anyone switched on a light. In the sixties my aged grandmother came to live with us. She came from a rural area and had never quite got used to the telephone. When it rang she used to jump. But she discovered that you could stop it ringing by taking the handset off the body and putting it down. It never occurred to her to say anything into it. When my mother came home she would say: "I can hear someone shouting". "Yes Grandma," my mother would say. "That's the operator (who had guessed what had happened) telling you to put the handset back." These days I sympathise with my aged gran, although I have to say that technology is moving faster than it did then.

My grandmother had a related habit. If one of my grandfather's favorite songs came on the radio while he was out of the room, she would turn it off so he could hear it when he returned. Apparently when they first hot electricity she would plug something into every outlet, to stop the electricity from leaking out.

Ah, she realized early on that this was a government plot to poison us and cook our brains.

(But to be slightly more serious, google EMF, and you'll find that many people believe this. You can buy dud plugs to 'stop' it.)

Reminds me of my sister, when Churchill was dying, who couldn't understand why he kept getting shot every time they issued a bulletin.
