A fine young player who has been tearing up trees during training for London Wasps, who I support (I am still not quite sure why...). Nice to see that his ability has been recognised.
Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
I see that Joe came on in the second half for England V Barbarians yesterday at Twickenham.

He's back in the England squad for the Autumn internationals as cover for Tom Palmer.

Good luck to him, I have a feeling that he may soon be one of the first names written on the team sheet.

Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
Now that he is in final 23 for the game against Fiji we are all hoping that the game goes well and that he will rise from the bench in the second half to become the first CH boy to gain a full England cap ... unless anyone can correct me.......

What we, in the Football Association world, call Egg Chasing !
I'm afraid I have to admit, that now I'm retired, and bed-time isn't an issue, plus the fact I've eventually mastered the rules, I far prefer watching American Football,

We have been scratching through archives today and it appears that Joe might be the first Old Blue for c 111 years to gain a cap (if it happens!)

So who was capped previously Howard and when?HowardH wrote:We have been scratching through archives today and it appears that Joe might be the first Old Blue for c 111 years to gain a cap (if it happens!)
I would have agreed with your original assertion that Joe Launchbury could be the first Old Blue to gain a full England cap.

Courtesy of Richard McGregor Old Blues RFC:
Yes well done to Joe Launchbury on gaining his first England cap against Fiji this afternoon.
From the research that I did on my recent book I believe that he is the first Old Blue (and only the second ever) to gain a full England rugby cap since Shirley Reynolds (yes that was his name) who gained four England caps in 1900 and 1901.
Otherwise the nearest to a full England cap was Derek Marriott who was a wartime international in 1945.
The only other Old Blue international I can trace was W J Cullen who was capped by Ireland in 1920.
Please forward this to anyone else you think might be interested.

Re: Congratulations To Joe Launchbury
Richard is totally spot on with that researched information.
Funny to think that in c 1998 Peter southern declared an "Elijah Sobanjo" day when Elijah was selected for England Schools. I wonder what might follow Joe's elevation?
