Squits

Post by holdinglc »

Hi all - new parent getting used to everything CH.

Can anyone enlighten me about the term, 'squit'?

My boy mentioned it in passing and, whilst I read the page about it in one of the handouts, I would really appreciate some insight from parents who understand what it means to them

Thanks in advance

It just means new boy/girl. I imagine ,though I don't know why, it has something to with being small.Like Tich or Half Pint and other endearments for junior new people .I don't at all think it's meant to be anything else. The older pupils get the less they use the term.

Before the days of Leigh Hunt houses, all new boys into the Prep block were known as 'squits' during their first year.

Well I know what the word always used to mean to me...
But if it has a different meaning at CH, then so be it! :)

Apparently 2nd formers are not supposed to be called squits any longer, the term is banned, but of course in the long tradition of the school they are still called squits!

One boy saying to another, ´Get your girdle up, squit `must sound strange to those not in the know.
