Calling all students & Grecians...

I gather from the CH Club that an attempt was made a while ago to have Old Blue visits to Universities, where the current Old Blues at the University would show round any current Blues that were thinking of going.

It never got off the ground properly due to a lack of interest from current under-graduates......they were more focussed on their new friends and activities.

Current Uni Students:- what do you feel about this? Would you be prepared to give up an afternoon to show round some current Blues, talk them through the good/bad bits of the Uni and/or the course you're doing, and maybe give advice on the areas to focus on to help them as they start at Uni?

Grecians/recent leavers:- Would you feel it would have benefited you to be shown round by an Old Blue, who could explain what's it's like moving from Housey to University?

Would be interested in your thoughts on this one.....

Cheers,

J

As long as it ended with a trip to the pub!
I'm currently working for my uni's marketing department during the summer anyway...

You'd think C.H. breeds boozers, wouldn't you?

No history of it, of course.......

And you'd like to help new people too
And show them what's what
Just give it a shot
And then take them off for a brew. :drinkers:

I think it would be useful (as a leaver) to be shown around - would at least give the person being shown around a touch of their former life in a strange way.

I'd show current old blues around if they wanted to. At sunny Southampton (the real one not the imposter) there are loads of old blues you wouldn't be short of guides I'm sure.

I pointed the CHA towards this - not sure if it's on their list or not at the moment.
This section can be an easy way for offers to show people around to be made though...........

I notice there are no Grecians here yet...

Well, in my opinion, it's no big deal to have an OB show me around, but then I haven't been at CH for seven years, and therefore I think I feel less scared of the outside world.

I'd imagine that having an OB show one around would introduce some sort of familiarity to the Uni, and so encourage one to look at it favourable eyes. I'm sure a fair number in my year might occasionally appreciate it...

Presumably a current OB undergraduate would know a current Grecian, unless like Luke s/he joined CH in Sixth form.

Not sure if that is a positive or a negative.

Well I joined in the 6th form, and although I think it would be nice to have an old blue show me around, as it is always nice to have familiarity, at the same time I would be happy to show myself around. I think the best way would be to have someone the student has met on a previous occaison... But yes, I do think it makes a difference being new to the school. From people i've spoken to in my year that have done the whole 7 years have said that although in some ways they will be very glad to leave CH... that they have had enough, that at the same time they are scared because CH is all they have really known. So in that sense probably for them to have an OB guiding would be very helpful.

The way things are going, I don't think anybody will be able to actually afford Universit education very soon.

There's a rumour going round that some of them are to be closed and converted into asylum-seekers/deprtation centres !

:axe:
