This was Mrs Johnson, who always wanted to abolish kiff-bowls, but somehow never managed.
She did in the end, as by 1970 they were only in use as sugar bowls. I think that she retired about 1971-2.
Her nickname was Odd - Job if I remember correctly.

While eating lunch today, I wondered if anyone from Hertford remembered butter beans with weevils in? It was a regular occurance in the 40s.

Certainly remember butter beans - easily imported and kept indefinitely. Do you remember your weekly (or was it fortnightly) egg out of the isinglass? All to ofter a mass of hydrogen sulphide. They didn't have food health regulations in those days

OTOH I remember making "gardens" wiith metal salts in isinglass solution after the war. Brought some colour to the world
What happens if a politician drowns in a river? That is pollution.
What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

Yes, so do I, the "gardens" were better than anything I grew in my little plot!

Boiled eggs at Hertfotd always tasted elderly to put it kindly.

Thank you, what a memory jolt! I loved my little garden plot, round the back of the science block and a great place just to sit in the afternoon sune and chill out in peace! No-one ever seemed to look for you round the back there!

Boiled eggs always had a very very bright (suspiciously) yellow yolk, so over cooked it tasted floury! Wonder how long they left them in the cauldron's for??

I shouldn't ask questions like that if I were you, Gerrie, someone might know the answer ,which might put you off boiled eggs for life.
