A Hertford item sold on eBay

Post by kerrensimmonds »

See the following :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=024

Has the world gone mad? I had a whole box of these (now somewhere at Horsham) and was selling them for 50p or £1.....And I gave one as a present, to Gemma!

I tried to find out something about this well-heeled purchaser - clearly female, possibly quite young (or rather, younger than me!). Maybe a relatively recent Old Blue?

Seeing this prompted me to sign up to eBay, and I found this:

Has anyone read this book? It's called "Christ's Hospital Hertford" by Frances M Page, M.A, Ph.D.

Yes, I have a copy of it. It's quite definitive (Dr Page taught History at Hertford, for aeons) - but its like gold dust now.

And look at the price requested for this one!!!!
(It's not that rare - we all bought a copy in my last year (they were going very cheap!), and when we left I got everyone else to autograph my copy)

I have a copy of this one too, which my mother must have bought. It is in quite poor condition, with no dust jacket.

I don't think they were ever in very good condition, Mary. Published in the 1920's, with rough cut pages? Mine does not have a dustjacket, either...

I bought one at the last Old Blues Day.

I didn't realise it was an investment.
