Birthdays

Post by cj »

Happy birthday, Huntertitus, Rory and Cath. Although I suspect that at this late stage of the day you're probably p1ssed! Maybe Rory has a hangover at breakfast. No idea of the time in Shanghai. How do the Chinese celebrate birthdays?

Thanks CJ - I'm actually not pissed yet becasue its 8.15 in the morning but I was pissed quite recently (2 nights ago - went for dinner with friends and found a nice bottle of single malt beginning with an 'M') but back to birthdays in China - I actually asked a friend about this and I quote the reply.....

"And about the Chinese birthday party, I dont know if it is different from yours. Last Saturday, we eat many delicious food, like crabs, shrimps, fish (it is a absolutely necessary dish), and so on .Of course we also have the birthday cake. But the friends often used to push the cake on the persons face who is on birth that day. I dont like this manner indeed.
We didnt go to the KTV that night because most of them drank too much."

I like the fish comment - don't know how "absolutely necessary" it is in the UK to eat fish on a birthday???

Happy birthday to HT and Cath as well!!!!!!!!!!

Friday night in Shanghai - bet we don't see much of Rory today!

What's KTV, by the way? Is it some sort of karaoke joint?

wow, three birthdays from regular posters and we missed them.

Happy Birthday all.

Not sure I like the cake in the face, I like to eat mine.

In china don't you have your first birthday the day you are born?

How could we miss those birthdays? JR where were you when you were needed?

The Chinese in Borneo celebrate the baby's birth at the full moon of the birth. You have to be a very close friend to go to drink the especially revolting chicken soup with the mother before then. It was said to be that if the baby survived that long there was a fair chance for it. It was said that they counted age as from conception but as the birth animal was definitely the one when they were born I am not sure.

In Pakistan (when we were there, and where we were) the birth wasn't celebrated for a full year, again the infant would have a fair chance if it survived that long.

KTV is a kind of karaoke - more often than not its unfortunately a place to get laid (sorry girls) but its true - however there are some reputable KTV places like Haoledi and Cashbox where you belt out all your favourite pop tunes - they love it over here.

I shouldn't drink really - tonite Ive got to go to the airport to pick up our Managing Director over from Italy - Oh well....

Do you have to look after him this evening, or can you go out on the lash afterwards?

Something plucked from the depthes of the memory here - our last term at C.H. started on your birthday. I've just checked, and it was a Friday. It was always nice to have the weekend to settle back in. They start a bit earlier these days!
