By the time you left Emma, they had sorted out the Ball and made it into a very special occasion...

Hannoir wrote:my grecians ball was one of the best nights ever! it was in 2002 and was in big school, there were loads of pretty balloons there and goldfish on the table.

i got sooo drunk. we had generous teachers on our table who bought loads of wine, we danced the night away and i was hideously hungover the next day.

such good memories of that night.
same ball as me, it was the best night i have ever had- i had the most beautiful dress imaginable, people still comment on how i looked and to this day i cannot find a nicer one!!! (gosh that sounds big headed but its not, its just it wasnt very often i got such compliments)

Courtesy of a guest of Ms Toland who kept topping up my glass when i wasnt looking i got well and truely drunk. It was brilliant danced with all my fav teachers and then got to wonder around for rest of night and watch the sun kinda come up!

You don't know how lucky you were. We had to get whatever female was around which (I suspect) included master's wives etc but not, under any circumstances that young blonde finnish girl from the kitchens. I succeeded in persuading a delightful nurse called Megan to accompany me - no alcohol allowed but enjoyable but didn't get anywhere.

If her OB husband reads this (married about 1963) let me know how she is.

and whilst we are on the subject......................

two convicts sitting in their prison cell:

1st. Convict: "Want some tickets for the prison officers ball ?"
2nd. Convict: "Nah ! I can't dance !"
1st. Convict: "Who said anything about a dance ? This is a raffle !"

Probably - we had one in 1988 and pretty sure we weren't the first year to get one.

What's a pnoto ?

Is a dance peculiar to CH ?

Yes indeed... in my time (it is probably different now) you had a drinks reception in the headmaster's garden followed by a formal meal and a 'dance' (which was a disco - not formal dancing!) and a lot of drink!

Most people made the effort - on my year, Chris Collings turned up on a horse and trap and Tom Ryder-Smith drove up the avenue in an Aston Martin.

The year after me the Peele A grecians turned up on a bockermobile (one of the laundary milk vans!)

Was that anything to do copious amounts of alcohol?
