and when did you leave? We didn't even have access to phones.

As for the leg business I got into sh.tstreet one night. On parade into dining hall I felt a stone and a mass of slime in my shoe and asked permission to fall out. Request refused. In dining hall I removed the offending shoe to pour out the accumulated liquid - it took a fork to lever out the length of broken glass.

A few days later I got hauled into Mr Jones' (Prep A) office and given merry hell for getting my socks so dirty - I had been reported by matron. Treatment - you must be joking, but at least I didn't get beaten for that offence. The scar is about an inch and a half long even now.
Surely, if you left in '61, you had access to the phone in the corridor alongside the prep tables in the dining hall ?

Have to confirm that Mr Jones of Prep A was one scary b*gger ! Thankfully, I never got on the wrong side of him in my Prep B days !

I may have left in 1961 but the event was in 1952 when I was in Prep A. No phones then - and I never even knew there was a phone there even later. Being in Col A we never had reason to go to the other end of the dining hall. As for Mr Jones see my post today about apologies regarding him and his inability to speak a "proper" language!

What happens if all of them drown? That is solution!!!

I think we got a phone at Hertford in about 1969 when there was a postal strike.

Itt didn't help me though as we didn't have a phone at home until 1975, after I had graduated from university and got married.

Antonio Meucci (1808-1896) or Philipp Reis (1834-1874) are considered to be the inventors of the first telephone. Bell patented the phone in 1876.

They were lucky, they couldn't hear the cold callers due to all the white noise and distortion!

I thought that was banned under the Geneva Convention, although it worked well in Northern Ireland until the Human Rights people found out !

White Noise (the film) should be banned - I can't stand Michael Keaton.
