Teaching jobs in the UK

Post by Tim_MaA_MidB »

I am considering returning to the UK to complete my PGCE and start as an NQT... but where to start?

Any suggestions/information/contacts would be appreciated.

I have been teaching the Cambridge IGCSE computing, physics, biology and chemistry as well as general science and computing to younger age groups.

Is the govt still handing out post-NQT grants?

Institute of Education is another good place to start.

I work there so if you want any info drop me a line, or look at their website http://ioewebserver.ioe.ac.uk/ioe/index.html

The TDA website is the right place to start. I think you probably need to look at registering for a Graduate Teacher Programme :-
http://www.tda.gov.uk/Recruit/thetraini ... ourse.aspx

We have been facilitating this programme (at the University of Chichester) for many years and it is becoming a hugely popular route into QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) for those individuals who need a tailored programme to enable them to meet the TDA Standards, while being paid on the job. Many such individuals have either part-trained in the past, or have taught abroad, and just need the extra 'topping up' to gain QTS. Lots of them - the majority in fact - end up with a permanent job in their training school.

You would need to find a training school with links to a training provider - if you fancy West Sussex I would be happy to put you in touch with the course co-ordinator here at the University. PM me if I can help?

Here's the link to the University's web page, and (hopefully) the Programme Specification for the GTP :-
