A number of Old Blues write for national newspapers.

I suggest you try Con Coughlin, defence and security editor of The Telegraph.

A lot of papers only take work experience candidates if they are signed up for a post-grad course.

The usual way into the industry is to complete the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) preliminary certificate in newspaper practice (known as NCTJ prelim).

I work at a training centre which offers this course; PM me if you want any further info or visit http://www.nctj.com.
