Yes, the Band was brilliant. The Orchestra was a sad chore. Stillwell used to just pressgang people with parts and rehearsals never had any zing to them. Compared with the Band, it was embarrassing.

Allwood probably was upset but he didn't have respect like Mr Elliot did. I mean, how many of you remember rehearsing for choir christmas carol stuff watching your breath leave your body in front of you with those chapel doors wide open...and Allwood demanding more and more until he snapped and said -' if any of you want to leave, just do so now...' With a menacing look. How many of you were waiting for just one person to get up?

I always liked Allwood but I do rememeber one rehersal where he got so mad that his face started bleeding!!! In retrospect I'm sure it must have been a shaving cut that opened up, but it was fairly scary at the time!

I always remember the mad conducting - he always looked like a bat on acid when he was conducting while wearing his black gown!
