It was on the Radio 4 4pm news just after Ampleforth and Downside were mentioned,

It would seem that more of the national papers have picked up Karim's sentencing than they did Husband's.

Those comments from the tennis club who later employed him are utterly shameful.

Why was he given the chance to talk to Husband in jail?

I quite agree, but then, some 'Posh Peoples' clubs and organisations often tend to think these super sports people are fire-proof and can do as they like.

They call it association. Its the one hour a day they aren't banged up.

Richard - why do you think the judge went for 10, rather than the 12+ that you had outlined previously? Without hearing Verisona's update, what would be your informed guess?

It is actually harder than you think to send people to prison.

This particular judge has already been found to have been too lenient twice already.

I just don't think she feels able to pass long sentences.

I would think that upon conviction, Mr Karim would be put in with all the other cons at the local prison (rather than being unconvicted and on remand with certain privileges). As a convicted but unsentenced prisoner, and he would have the same association rights as the others, there are no pending cases (AFAIK) to be a reason to keep them apart. As 'nonces', they are probably kept with others of the same proven inclination, and as they know each other, them spending time together isn't going to breach any Prison rules and perhaps if cellmates they are unlikely to attack each other, and would save some other unfortunate the joy of their company.

Eventually, they may be dispersed to other prisons depending on their sentence, initial assessments and designated 'career' paths.

The first three counts were concurrent at seven years. Four given one year concurrent to run consecutively and the remainder given two years concurrent to run consecutively totalling the ten.

He didn't show a reaction when the sentence was handed down and throughout showed little emotion even when the VPS were read out (two were read out). There was no remorse shown and this was noted by the Judge.

Karim did however 'shed a tear' when his four character witnesses were called to give evidence. They were all attributed to Queens Club. They made some very odd comments regarding the risk (or lack thereof) that he posed notwithstanding their awareness of his convictions.

The SHPO was required as Karim during his time at the school was undeterred by clear instructions on pupil teacher boundary and despite his lack of offending in more recent years all bases needed to be covered for instance the oppurtunity to work on a charitable basis. The only contact he is allowed with under 18s is accidental or with prior authority of parents or guardians with full disclosure. He of course has to last 5 years in her majestys pleasure until such point as he may be eligible for release.

I have a feeling he may find himself on the Isle of Wight...

I am still somewhat shocked but sadly not surprised that despite two independent disclosures he was allowed to remain in a post with uninterrupted access to girls for a further three years when he posed such a risk.

Hope this info is of use.

That's very helpful. Thanks.

Why on earth are Queens Club still defending him?

A narcissist without any guilt or remorse who can charm and manipulate and who right up until the very last will try and discredit the very people whose lives he has already destroyed.
Someone who has wormed his way through life surrounding himself with influential people and who at long last has been found out.
Thank you for such a succint and observant account

Was Queens defending him or just 4 members at a very large club, who had befriended a man that behaved differently from his younger self many years before at CH?

I expect there are rather more journalists amongst the membership of the Queens club than that of the Pickering Rotary Club, which might go some way to explaining the difference in levels of interest.
