The hearing

Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

The hearing

Post by richardb »

Is about to start.

Court 4 is very cramped and it isn't clear whether we will all get in. I have asked if I can make notes and be told I can.

There are a number of people lurking who appear to be interested in the case. Husband appears to have three supporters.

ITV are here.

I don't know if I will be able to post during the hearing.

Updates to follow.

There are 3 members of the Husband family here. 3 other observers apart from me.

The dock is separated by glass. Husband has just been brought in.

The judge has just risen to consider sentence.

The prosecutor addressed the court for 40 minutes and the defence for about 20

It is upwards of 10 years but not clear yet where. In my book it is 18 years.

Having heard what has been said this morning, the school comes out of this with even less credit.

Update on sentence to follow in the next half an hour.

All clocks/timings on this forum seem to be an hour behind today so more like 15 minutes.

Many thanks for feeding us the facts, Richard. Very much appreciated.

It'd be interesting to know what Husband has told his own immediate family up until this point. Has he always assured them of his complete innocence and do they now consider him to have been wrongfully imprisoned? Will they therefore claim that there's been a miscarriage of justice and campaign for his release? Or has he come clean and will he be in the doghouse for aye? Who can say?

I'd be interested to know his d.o.b. too, if it's come to light during the proceedings.

Well, the circumstances surrounding his premature departure from CH were fairly well known, and would indeed have been criminal had they occurred today. I imagine this subject was well-aired over the dinner table at the time.

I think he is 67.

His departure wasvariously referred to as he "was sacked" and he was "encouraged to resign".

It sounds as though the first Mrs. Husband sacked him too.

But no actual date of birth known, then. Okay.

Let's not forget that his sons are OBs and may well be members of this web community. They must be feeling pretty devastated today, so let's spare them a thought on that score.

From reading Jim's link above some of that "17 years" is to be served concurrently.

The 'real' sentence is 12 1/2 years from what I can see. What I don't know is whether or not the concurrent element affects potential release dates. 12 1/2 years on its own would mean a normal release date after 6 years 3 months (50% of the sentence). Maybe the effect of the concurrent element is to increase the normal release date to 8 years 6 months?

Anybody (Richard B?) know for sure?
