Given the poetic postings on Brexit by my contemporary Brian Allgar, is it possible that we are inspired by our old house name?

In Coleridge B did NT Fryer a stately poetry dome decree,
Where rhyme and common limerick ran,
Through dayrooms measureless to man,
Down to the Armoury.

Bit of artistic licence there. The dayrooms were crowded and claustrophobic in my day. Thinking about the armoury, which was just down the road from Col B, we had compulsory cadet corps attendance in those days and there was enough ordnance that if the IRA had broken in they could have staged a sussessful insurrection in West Sussex. In fact we'd probably have cheered them on.

Ah well, if this thread is going to be diverted into County Limerick, I might as well pull my weight, I suppose.

Ahem....

In Dorking, a copper named Rutley
- oft confused with the owner of Muttley -
Proved so dastardly that
He once ate my cat
Then swallowed my canteen of cutl'ry.

Next up, he ingested my smartphone,
Which was shaped like a plastic ice cream cone -
But his conscience did prick
So he swallowed a brick
Then truncheoned himself on the headbone.

Perhaps someone would like to open a Limerick thread, as this Karim thread seems to have gone way off track !

There's a very strong case for moderating abysmal limericks. Not to mention moderating men in baseball caps.

At least he isn't wearing it the wrong way round.

Well, there's gratitude for you. Anyone else would just count themselves lucky to have been immortalised in verse.

In fact, why not have a calligrapher copy it out by hand and then have it framed?

(PS: I wore the hat just once, in a moment of madness, rather than risk sunstroke, which I got anyway. This on a boat in Florida.)

Actually, tourist Florida's about as cheesy as Great Yarmouth, so I almost said 'This on a boat when I was on holiday' to conceal my shame at having been to Florida. But see, I'm essentially shameless. And essentially overweight too.
