The recent death of the above named brings to question of how he was able to secure admission in 1937 based on the financial circumstances of his family, Without wishing in any way to probe into anybody's background the fact remains that he was the Hereditary Standard Bearer at the Queen's
Coronation in 1953 and at his death he was certainly a member of one Lincolnshire's landed gentry families.
I know that there always some boys whose families had for various reasons fallen on hard times, perhaps through the early death of a parent .
I remember that little if ever was mentioned at school of a family's background and rightly so. Some certainly never had parental visits.

Another case was the friend of Lamb and Coleridge called Charles Valentine le Grice whose father was a priest and house master or similar at Eton or Harrow. I do know that all sorts of documents were supplied to permit his entry.
