jttaylor and marty made mention of the 'Swing March', and Henry Mancini was mentioned. The PInk Panther theme is definitely a march, but I was wondering if you weren't getting confused with Glen Miller's St. Louis Blues.

During my time in the band, (early 60's), this was actually banned by Mr. (Bill) Bailey, the ex marine bandmaster, because of it's 'swing' beat.

I seem to remember he eventually relented, and we did perform it, but only on a very few occasions.

The Swing March is from the film "What did you do in the war, Daddy?" (a Blake Edwards film).

The music is definitely by Henry Mancini. We used to play it, too.

Blake Edwards directed the Pink Panther movies so it follows that he'd use another piece of Mancini's music in "What did you do in the war, daddy?"

I was always rather proud of the marching - is it unique in the world?
I guess one way of viewing it is that it's the practice required in order to march through London on St. Matthew's day - now that IS a privilege that the school has done well to hang on to. How many other schools can claim to close down the streets of London every year, and go marching past St. Pauls etc?

I don't think there's another school in the world that has this sort of tradition...
