Congratulations on surviving to tell the tale! It made me think - later this week will be the 54th anniversary for me - ouch! Tempus fugit, indeed!

Re: Monday 20th September 1965
Thanks for the reminder. I don't think I would have thought of it. A lovely sunny autumn day here today and I think it was probably a lovely sunny autumn day 45 years ago. My memory suggests it was always a good time to be down in Horsham, new school year, new teachers, new rugby season and good to be back with friends after the long summer holiday.

Also conkers and scuffing through fallen leaves on the way to hockey at Ashbourne. It has always semed to me that New Year should be now rather than in January - I used to joke that in a former life I must have been either Jewish or an academic!

..an english academic - doesn't apply in lots of other countries - but I agree... this time of year is about fresh starts for me, too.

No, Mary, it was 23rd August 1965. A day I'll never forget.

Re: Monday 20th September 1965
Thanks Carol, I remember the day, just not the date. I also thought we left on July 4th 1972, and I graduated on the same date in 1975, but having looked at my bible it is dated July 10th, so all these years I have got it wrong.

I can't remember the date in December 1940 (Late-- as usual !) but a lovely day, with added attractions of vapour trails in the sky !!

Some God-forsaken day in January, 1958. I DO remember it was a very fine bright, but bl00dy cold day !

53 years for me though I can't remember the exact date.
I do remember the day I left : 4 July 1966. A very significant date. Independence at last!

Term dates were different then - my brother's birthday is 26th July and it depended which day of the week it was whether he was home. Did Housey break up on a Tuesday and return on on a Friday then? (53-62 ?)

Re: Monday 20th September 1965
50 years ago to the day that an apprehensive little eleven year old squit arrived that afternoon in a Maine A then under the auspices of one TH Keeley esq aided and abetted by Messrs Christopher Vincent-Smith and Christopher Read. Mark Cousins of Maine A was the Senior Grecian, Graham Pratt House Captain and other monitors were Gray, Lloyd, Fordham, Pratt R, Tompkins, Jackson and Isaac although it was Lloyd and Fordham with whom we squits had the most dealings.
In the unlikely event of any of Adams, Brooks, Butler, Calton J (RIP), Calton R, Chapman, Clack, Cromey-Hawke, Haynes, Kerridge, Martin, Miller A, Nicholson, the 1965 Maine A intake including me, reading this I wish you all the best and hope that life has gone well.
Best wishes too to AKAP ,ex Barnes B, a squit at the same time. He may be slightly more likely to visit the forum and see this.
