Anything that doesn't fit anywhere else, but that's still CH related.

I've just been reading an extract from his book, in the Guardian Weekend. Who is he? To be published by Granta you've got to be a classy writer.

Rupert was at CH in the late 60s early 70s I was in the same house, his brother has posted on the forum, he has had a number of books published. I have read two "The book of Revelation" and "Divided Kingdom". The later contained a couple of un-aknowledged references to his time at CH. Whilst it is obvious that writers will use their own life experiences when writing fiction I found it very un-nerving to stumble across them in a novel.
The clip shown on the web illustrated to me just how little we knew of each others home life when we were at school. We just accepted each other on what we knew of them during their time at school.

He is indeed a good writer. His name was Rupert Farquhar-Thomson and he was in Peele B in the late 60s.
Nice guy - great that he has been so successful.

I am Rupert's brother and took the author photo for the latest book called "This Party's Got to Stop" which is a quote from the police in our garden who'd been called out by neighbours because of the noise we were making smashing up furniture - it needed to be done but fuelled by alcohol it became a little energetic and very noisy. I asked the police in for a drink telling them it wasnt a party, just a regular evening at number 36. It is a very good book and not al att exaggerated, but as usual with his books there are too few copies in the shops. There were enthusiastic reviews which can be seen on the web. My other favoirite book of his is "The Insult" It would help him hugely if any of you buy the book and then do a review on Amazon...

I seem to remember Rory playing The Ramones "It's Alive" at top volume with all the windows open. Provoked a similar response, I think......

Yes I remember that too

Rory loved the Ramones, and, oddly, Gary Numan!

(He still plays trumpet in a Jazz band in Shanghai)

I was playing Pistols, Clash, Stranglers and lots of more obscure punk bands

And I still have my 1964 Rickenbacker gathering dust under the bed!

Do read Ruperts book - it has a lot about the 3 R's and a fair bit of anarchy!

I saw the original line-up in Crawley some many moons ago.

They were awesome !

I saw them in Brighton in 1978 and the bass player, Jean-Jacques Burnel trod on my hand

If memory serves, they hail from Surrey, around the Guildford area originally.

I know the reformed band did Guildfest a couple of summers ago.

There is a review of Rupert's book, This Party's Got To Stop, apparently in a publication called What's On UK Student Guide which has just been published.
