or indeed on actually in the sense that what might have been perceived then as purloining is now " liberating" or " recuperating for posterity " and thus no longer reprehensible....

My daughter used to regularly " borrow" things from me in much the same frame of mind...

It is posited that ST stands for Samuel Travers, who gave his bequest to Christ's Hospital in 1729, and that the number 48 on the rim may be a number given to it, like a limited edition.
