Donations needed for Forum - August 2013 - Comments here

Post by jtaylor »

It's that time again, and I'm in need of donations for the hosting and maintenance. We need approx. £200 to get back to a point where my costs are covered.

Further details are here:- http://chforum.info/php/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1051
Thank you in advance for all donations, how ever big or small - it all helps with the costs.

As always, all donations gratefully received - but please don't feel compelled or required to donate - it's more important to me that people benefit from the forum, and as with the ethos of CH nobody should pay any more than they can afford.
A big thank you to all those who've contributed in the past - please don't feel compelled to again, many of you have donated year after year.

Please add any comments/questions below.

The link doesn't work for some reason.

Hopefully this will and is your website and not somebody else's!

Good luck with it Julian.

Excellent, thanks J.R!
Three kind donations so far - definitely quieter recently on the forum than previous years.

Perhaps an article in The Blue, with a few interesting snippets enticing people in, both young and old, parent and Old Blue?
I don't have time to write this myself, but happy to proof read someone else's musings?

Strange Old Man Dressed In WWI Army Gear / Dog Named Lobster***, School Needle Work and, hot from the press, World War 2, CH Teachers etc.

Just three threads, of many, plucked from the Unofficial Christ's Hospital Forum. (UCHF)

The UCHF has a number of categories including reminiscences, photographs (by House and others) and a Hertford Section together with other sections for Parents existing and prospective, Universities, Careers and Travel and more besides. In short there is something for everyone from 16 year old current CH pupils, their parents through to geriatric Old Blues of either sex!

It should be stressed that although the categories outlined above exist parents comment on school bits, Horsham Old Blues on the Hertford Section and vice versa. The forum is a friendly community for those, over 16, with an interest in CH.

The "unofficial" aspect has encouraged some wonderfully candid descriptive writing from contributors and those from Horsham can feel transported to Hertford and vice versa as well as having memories of their own schooldays evocatively rekindled. The viewpoints expressed are often not what one might expect to see in official publications such as "The Blue" but tell it "as it was." That said the UCHF does not see itself as subversive but rather as a "critical friend" supportive of CH and its Ethos yet not afraid to speak against the "party line" if necessary.

Facebook, Twitter and other social media enable people to keep in touch easily these days but do not offer as much facility for debate and / or reminiscence as a forum.

Please take a look at http://www.chforum.info and consider posting. A forum is only as good as its contributors and is always in need of new blood and viewpoints. Some stalwart original contributors are sadly no longer with us, most recently Kerren Simmonds who was a great friend and contributor.

***The man in question is CF Kirby variously known as Bill, Uncle or Rip depending precisely on which generation of Old Blues between nineteen fourteen and the mid nineties one belongs to!

Here is an effort at a "piece" as requested by Julian above. Please feel free to rip apart, tell me what I should have said, said but shouldn't have said etc.

Hopefully between us we'll come up with a half decent piece of publicity for the forum!
