Re: Roger Allam in Radio Times

I strongly subscribe to the view that Old Blues go to Christ's Hospital so their children won't need to. The excellent education I received enables me to choose how to educate my daughter; this doesn't apply to everybody of course, especially the non-foundationers, some of whom are on this forum (a...

Two people whom I remember. Bob Galbraith (Col A), who only had thumb and little finger on right hand. Played the French horn, was my partner in some science labs and had no problem doing the experiments. Met him at a 50th reunion and think he said he was in the medical profession but I investigated...

Re: School Chaplains

Almost on topic. After A levels I remember a class with J C Tod entitled “ The Bible as History”. I have always considered that the Old Testament was history interlaced with teachings.

Probably correct. Can’t remember clarinet nor percussion.

Re: The Housey Hotspots, etc

Michael “Joe” Froggatt, (Pe B), a direct contemporary of mine as we went to junior school and CH together, formed the Jabberwocks, who played traditional Jazz. Froggatt was on the Euphonium, Noel Abel on trombone (he later went on to become a distinguished bass trombonist with top symphony orchestra...

Re: Pocket money, Nausea and more

Definitely payment in my day but I don’t recall how much. 15 florins seems a lot, all in one go, but I used to get one florin as a choir boy at weddings before I went to CH, so maybe it wasn’t that much. I was a swab for my second two terms to Launchfield, the Trades Monitor, and the all of my seco...

Re: The Housey Hotspots, etc

There is a letter in the Lent 1994 Blue from Brian Stanley (Mid A 46 - 52), which mentions the Housey Hotspots. There is obviously a photo of them in a previous Blue, since he names some of them, Perry, (Col A) on saxophone, Austin (Th B), Bill Butler on drums and Nick Hull on French Horn. Unfortuna...

Small world and I will have to check up with my cousin, but I believe my Uncle Mick was instrumental in setting up these Pilgrimages and if so, would probably have met Jeffers, who was after my time.

Re: Mr Redshaw's Rednecks

My 85 year old aunt lives near Deal and a couple of years ago I visited and was chatting to her son in law. He claimed it was impossible to discuss Brexit in the area because of the number of London Pensioners who had retired to the North Foreland and were all belligerent Brexiteers.

There is a Shadrach Hopgood on the Speedwell whom my cousin believes is related to us, but I cannot trace the connection.

The outcome, I don't recall, but it didn't reflect badly on Rocker. Remembering Mr. Rae, as I do well , I can only imagine the outcome as DIRE for the miscreant. Knowing Mr Rae from after your time JR, I think experience had mellowed him. He didn't have any problem keeping order and we were a Deps ...

In my era it was called PSG (Public Service Group).
Three years in CCF then a choice of CCF or PSG.
I spent my year in the library helping classify the books according to the Dewey Decimal System?
