I'm almost certainly coming in October. It seems such a great place, cheap; relatively small town; friendly; so many bilingual signs (and people) it's like being abroad; breathtaking scenery. And very good uni too, departments where everyone knows everyone else etc..

Fives players were always pointless and dull too, if I remember.
Too true. They just take it way too seriously, and give you evils if you say anything bad about it.

the tube!

Funny how this topic has digressed to chapel! I was just going to share a brief but odd experience I had the other day with a member of staff. It was during a routine band parade, and I had to go to the MLD on the top floor of the maths block. I crossed the path of the band perhaps a bit too closely...

any expats?

I was just wondering if any expats are missing the UK a lot; or loving it in their new home; or both? There are many people (including myself) who don't particularly like the UK (well, I'd rather live here than on the 3 poorer continents, but most developed countries are better), and would love to p...

Fives

Fives seems to be a longstanding tradition of a compulsory sport for uncoordinated people like me who aren't good at whatever the main teamsport is for the relevant time of year. I was just wondering what everyone's opinions are of this weird and pretty rare sport, and whether anyone who played it a...

Well, it seems the first (?) current pupil has found out, but don't worry I won't tell a soul. I'm luckily usually on the right side of the law, and have only once been summoned to him, about 4 years ago. But he seems a normal decent guy really, I'm not sure where he gets his unenviable reputation f...

There's now actually only one dishwasher left, in my pod, F pod. Two others died at exactly the same time when they both happened to be on, and there was a power cut, and the water got everywhere inside it and stuff. Looking up at the ceiling now, my room has very few cracks and no leaks. I find it ...

hurricane

amazing photos jtalyor, I guess that's one of the many experiences described on the forum that I'm glad I wasn't there for. I seen so many photos of front av before 1987, it looked so beautiful. Anyone know how long it's expected to take for the current trees to grow to the size the old ones used to...

"Fully-aged" indeed! I'm 44, and I very much hope that I still have some ageing left to do.... Sorry! But people seem to get offended when called 'middle-aged,' so what to say?! I guess I meant old blues that have not just left, in their early 20s, but left a 'while' ago, and still enjoy ...

Is "Keeping Cave" still used - our Latin education coming through there! Keeping 'KV' was still used just as regularly as always, up until about 2 or 3 years ago, when open dorms completely died out. People still say it though when the teacher's out of the classroom, and you start messing...

norm

I'm wondering where the cuss 'norm' or 'norman' comes from, imperatively combined with that weird throatal noise. It's still going strong in CH in 2005.

I was on the squits between 1998 and 1999, and it was naturally not offensive at all, just a year name, as someone else mentioned. I was on the last yeargroup that was 'allowed' to be called squits, it was actually really odd when we came back in September 1999 and it had suddenly been strictly bann...

Hi there. I'm really impressed and amused how fully-aged people have such great humour, and can still have a good laugh about doing those things that only young teenagers could do, but what the teachers would (profesionally and publicly, anyway) consider unacceptable! I'm loving reading your stories...
