Descartes is sitting in a café. "Will you have cream in your coffee, Monsieur?" asks the waiter.
"Er.. I think not," replies Descartes. and vanishes.

Strangely enough, I was introduced to menthol cigarettes by my housemistress in 5's, who used to share her ciggies with me if there was no-one else around. She smoked St Moritz, but I could only afford Consulate myself. I should add this was the housemistress who arrived when I was in the UVI - afte...

Funny, I remember boxes at Hertford, as midget described, not rolls, and I started in 1967. It was like Izal but I think it might have been called Bronco or something.

Funny what memories we have of the details of our time at CH

Does anyone remember Bun (Judith Points)? [STILL LOOKING...]

Looking through old letters in relation to a thread on one of the other CH forums, I came across several from Bun, alias Judith Points, and wondered if anyone was still in contact with her? She was in 6's and left, IIRC, in 1972. She was a talented musician, particularly organist, and went on to Tri...

The tartan blankets were in use throughout my time, from 1967 onwards. They were primarily bedcovers, although I also remember being allowed to take them out on to the field when revising for O and A levels. Actually when I think about it some more, I believe Upper Dorm (LIV upwards) still had yello...

Beds & Herts, or Bucks Old Blues

Does anyone on here attend OB events in either the Beds & Herts Group or the Bucks Group? Technically I live in Bucks (well, the republic of MK anyway!) but as it's such a long sprawly county some of the Beds & Herts events might be closer. I've been toying with the idea of going along to so...

I've resisted responding up till now, partly because I'm not a parent myself, so can only imagine how you've been feeling, and partly because I'm afraid my response probably fails your criterion of nothing along the lines of "this is how it was for me" - but I hope it might be some comfort...

I'm sure I have some myself somewhere, but getting at them would involve clearing piles of junk and reaching up to the top shelf of a bookcase to bring down a rather precariously balanced basket. Must organise myself to do it soon. Oh do, please Jo. I knew I couldn't be the only one to have these b...

Jenny, you must have been in House, and your friend up t'Imf! You say "come down soon". One went up t'Imf and then back down. Or was the letter to you and not by you? Hmm, strong coffee time. I remember "up t'inf" - I'm assuming the expression must first have been coined by a Yo...
