Sorry Mrs C. , but forewarned is forearmed etc. On the bright side, it is way more likely to have been some random loudmouth who really did think you'd damaged his precious van, but just in case it's *not* it seemed better to recount what *might* be going on. To clarify one thing in my post above - ...

Last year a scrupulously polite and honest friend of mine was summoned to court and ordered to pay £00's in damages to a loud and aggressive woman he'd never seen in his life. She swore blind in court that he'd bashed into her car on some London back road, yet he was quite sure he'd never even driv...

In 1982-84 Roger Martin read vampire stories to the juniors, quite possibly Bram Stoker's original. I still have a blanket in a cupboard somewhere which has knots in the tassels that were tied, one per night, while "Dodger" paced the pitch-black dormitory, reading from his book by torchlig...

I remember the name Cathy Cooper, and your face (assuming thats you in your avatar) sure looks familiar... :D You weren't any relation to Nick Cooper were you? FWIW this is more how I look today. I also thought Julian played something at least trumpet-shaped (a cornet?) but then I thought I was prob...

I found a 1985 photo on this very forum! I'm 99% sure Julian's the very blonde boy third row from the front, second from the left. His older brother Adrian is in the next row up, 7th from the left. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y9/ukspindoctor/Miscellaneous/CH.jpg No prizes for guessing who the p...

Anyone remember John Rendall? (late 1930s early 1940s)

In 1992 I wandered into a tiny Belgravia pub for the first time (the Nags Head, Kinnerton St.) and was surprised to notice a black-and-white photo of two boys in C.H. uniform above the bar. It turned out to be a wartime photo of John Rendall QC, a well-respected barrister, Old Blue, Welsh Rubgy enth...

I knew Julian fairly well and liked him a lot (I was two years senior to him in the same house). He introduced me to the Australian singer/songwriter Kevin bl**dy Wilson who I still love to see when he tours today (careful if you Google that chap- his songs are *very* rude!). I remember Julian being...

I remember Rick Slater extremely kindly, what an incredibly nice guy he was. So sad.

There was a boy in Thornton called Julian Engelbrecht who was killed in a car-crash on his Grecians (I think) in 1991 or 1992. If I remember rightly he'd finished his last A-level exam but hadn't formally left C.H.

Very glad to hear Mr Rae's alive and well (as of 2005 anyway)... a pleasant and capable teacher, he got me through O-level Maths. I distinctly recall being rudely awakened at least once by flying chalks... my attention definitely tended to wander outside on hot summer afternoons.

One of the Roger Martins was house master of Barnes A when I joined in 1982, and later of Thornton B for a year or two following the girls arrival. I remember him quite kindly, and certainly never knew he was an Old Blue. I think he retired from teaching at C.H. during my time there (i.e. before 198...
