Re: White van men

Hi Munch Must be a North/South divide thing as white van men are scary up here, but not as bad as black or silver Mercs and Audis with tinted windows and a habit of zooming close up behind whenever one is daringly overtaking (and already exceeding the speed limit!). They then flash their lights sig...

I have been told that "yeo" means river. In Barnstaple we have the river Yeo, which is either the River River or the yeo Yeo. On our way to CH we had to drive through a town called Uckfield which got it's name from the river Uck which had a signpost saying "River Uck" next to it...

You'll be knackered if you ever joined the CCF, as I remember, you had to shoot with your right eye as the cartridges always came out of the right side of the rifle. Depends which ones, the ones for the indoor range can be used either way round, the GP is almost only right handed (there is a left h...

I'm pretty sure that the clay pidgeon shooting is out for me, I have a squint in my right eye so I cant aim rifles. A huge annoyance when I was in air cadets. I'm sadly not the biggest fan of sports. I enjoy it but for me it is usualy the fact that I ahve the drag the kit to school and then change ...

QUESTION FOR JOHN H. What was the name of the butcher that doubled as a school dentist in our day ? I had to have emergency treatment in Horsham one night because of him ! The name Pearson or perhaps Pearsall rings a bell from my time. I'm a youngster though compared to you  Your right, Mid A...

Tubular Bells reminds me of when the school theater was very new, the sound system was up and running but various other things were still being commissioned. For some reason Tubular Bells was played for hours on end!

and the Welsh have 'Men of Harlech' What DO they play at the Commonwealth Games? How can you even mention such a sexist anthem? Does that reflect upon the Welsh nation? Are Welsh women to be ignored (OK so Katharine is translated English - I assume.) Except that 'Men of Harlech' isn't the Welsh ant...

Scottish notes ARE legal tender in England. Here's a question for you anoraks to work out. How many types of LEGAL £10 notes are issued in Scotland, or come to that, £5 or £20. You might be surprised. Three of each, I think. Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank. Used to b...
