Re: End of term packing
I must also admit to loving the Great Smog of... was it 1962? We groped our way to and from school in near-invisibility. "Oh look, I think I recognise this lamp post!" I'm ashamed to say that I was not sensitive to those who suffered with respiritory difficulties, for it was fun! I rememb...

My favourite Quality Street is the orange crunch. I have a box of Bendicks mints, and a box of chocolate sea shells stashed away for sharing after Christmas dinner. For everyday I like Sainsbury's 85% dark chocolate - it is sold in packs of 5 x 25g bars, which helps with portion control.

This conjures up a wonderful mental image of snowmen skateboarding, playing footie, and helping the smaller snowmen.englishangel wrote:We have lots of snowmen in our street, the older ones made their own, and can often be found skateboarding and playing footie in the summer, and parents helped the little ones.

I've cracked, and opened the Quality Street "just to put some around in bowls". But - where is the square caramel one in the brown wrapping? Is it just my tin of QS, or has the caramel been discontinued? This is dire. The sickly strawberry cream  is still in there and will be the la...

It's been snowing gently for several hours here in Gloucestershire, but only just starting to settle.

I can't tell whether it is 0 or 1 - there isn't enough information in the examples. But infinity would be 2.

Going slightly off-topic (so nothing new there) I have recently started doing some family history, and would be interested in any recommendations for websites. I had a subscription to ancestry.co.uk for a few weeks, and found lots of information, though the interface was a bit annoying.

Re: Hertford Christmas dinners
I don't remember having any kind of special Christmas dinner at all. Looks like they were introduced between 1962 and 1971. My memory is that it was an extra-special roast dinner served on the last Sunday of term before Christmas, and DR went round the tables serving second helpings. We also had Ch...

Re: Hertford Christmas dinners
I definitely remember Christmas pudding. We may even have had a choice of puddings (it would have been the only occasion in the whole year when there was any choice of food) with the alternative of jelly, made extra solid. It says something about my tastes that I don't remember the main course.

My daughter went to Hampton Court earlier this year, and they had people dressed up as Tudors, including Henry VIII. I wonder if we could put in a request to meet Edward VI.

Changing tack slightly, but as I hopefully have at least Mary's and Munch's attention: I plan to be in UK in July for Mum's 80th. Current intention is to leave Adelaide on 11/7 and stay for three weeks (although the only thing written in stone is that I need to be in Haywards Heath for Sunday 18/7 ...
