When we lived in Pakistan, 25th December WAS a public holiday but Christmas Day was NOT (Sort that out if you can!) 25th December was the birthday of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Founder of the Nation. How very convenient. We were under strict instructions never to refer to the holiday as Christmas but ......

Roadside Collapse! (Katharine this is repetition which is absolutely not allowed. You will be burned alive for this.) Guilty as charged, Sir. I told you I was in a Bah Humbug mood this Easter, I am at work the sun is shining. Yesterday someone brought me £380 in unsorted coins, including more than ...

Easter - a fine religious festival in this country - luckily it falls on a Sunday so I get the day off. Not so with Christmas - if that's a weekday - its a normal working day. When we lived in Pakistan, 25th December WAS a public holiday but Christmas Day was NOT (Sort that out if you can!) 25th De...

When I was in the VI form we creased ourselves with laughter at the headline in a Sunday paper of a rugby report: Old Blues are Fast and Persistent

I feel a Bah Humbug mood coming on. I have got Sunday off this year, but it is the only day of the weekend I have off. Tourists have been appearing over the last few days, the town and the railway have got very busy. My computer has been playing up and people still haven't told me what floats they w...

I remember it as 'gravel-crunching' and we were still marching to lunch on Sunday when I left, no band but very smart and in time. I agree 'gravel-crunching'. Marching everyday stopped during my time, but at the moment cannot remember which year. 6s were the last to march which gave us several extr...

Sorry not to have contributed to this thread earlier there are several reasons: 1) I am totally unmusical, and could not contribute to Band or Choir 2) I live in Snowdonia and work full time for a tourist railway so work weekend frequently and trips to Horsham are pipedreams at the moment 3) I had a...
